Hello Amal, and thank you for your question. The way that this technology works is that it provides a web-based interface to an Access database, so that the database can be used through a web plugin the same way you would use it if it were on your desktop. So for example, if you had a database that interacted with an Excel spreadsheet, as long as both are on the computer or server together (i.e. you would use the Access database normally on the server that the technology is stored on), the spreadsheet and database itself are not on the web, you're only accessing it over the web. Our primary database tool is Microsoft Access which requires Microsoft Office, so we work with Windows systems. MS-DOS is an older operating system, incorporated into modern versions of Windows. We can also make databases that are accessible over an Internet browser, which do not require MS Access and could be accessed from any device.

There are other creative ways to make iOS and Android tablets function as an interface to your Access database, not covered in this video. For those of you who already bought tablets for those OS’s. If you search sites like Microsoftstore.com, NewEgg.com and Amazon for Windows tablets, you will find lots of viable options below $200. Which is a good value. Of course, environmental conditions may be a factor in your shop environment. So, a $200 tablet may not be rugged enough to hold up. Used off-lease desktop PC’s from a local computer re-cycler can also be a cost effective option for time entry. They take up more space, but have a full keyboard and bigger screen. This solution works best when you create a specific Access FE just for time entry. That allows you to customize the button sizes, fonts, etc. to be useable and legible on the size of screen you have for the user entering the data.
